Brendan Rodgers refuses to get carried away as Liverpool chase their first Premier League title.
The Reds leaped to the top of the table on the back of Sunday’s 4-0 victory over Tottenham at Anfield which has the Merseyside club in a strong position to land their first league title since 1990.
But Rodgers, as he has all season, is remaining calm about Liverpool’s pursuit as they keep doing battle with the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea for number one billing in England’s top flight.
"The
dream is for our supporters, they want to win the title - but it is not
in my thinking, my thinking it is to prepare the team and perform well
and if we do that we can continue to win games and then we can see where
that takes it," Rodgers told Sky Sports.
Rodgers added that results are his main priority at the moment rather than thinking about league standings.
"In
terms of ourselves that can only be our concentration. There are some
big opponents in this league, you can't worry yourself about other
teams," he added.
"Our next job, and my next job, is to analyse West Ham [Liverpool's next opponents] and that is our focus.
"We
have won eight games in a row and we are enjoying it, we will just
enjoy it as it is a fantastic performance and now we just concentrate on
the victory and concentrate on next week's game."
An own-goal from Younes Kaboul
and a first-half strike from Luis Suarez – his 29th of the season –
preceded second-half goals from Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson
as the Reds made it 26 goals in their past seven outings.
